The Fun Time Of Year

January 14, 2008 on 1:19 pm | In life | No Comments

I was outside a little while ago feeding the critters and oh my the girls are getting so big. It’s getting harder and harder to wait although there’s little else I can do. As they get bigger the anticipation grows too. A couple of them are so huge I’m sure they have trips in there, but I’ve seen some very ’small’ looking goats have huge numbers too, most notibly my friend’s nubian last year who looked like she was barely pregnant and may have a single ended up having QUADS. I’m still not sure where she put them.

Alex, my favorite of all the does (yes it’s hard not to have favorites) really looks huge. Specs my second favorite barely looks pregnant and I’m still not sure she is–I do hope there’s a big surprise in there though, cause I’d really like to keep a doe kid out of her.

Now my real ‘favorite’ in terms of what I consider my ‘best’ doe conformation wise as a Boer is Blondie. The thing that keeps her from being a personal favorite is she’s not very approachable and outgoingly friendly. (Specs on the other hand has turned into a real lovebug of the four boer crosses we got last year). I’d love a doeling out of her too, but she’s one that although she looks bred, she doesn’t look very big. I’ll probably get a single buckling. Haha

I know I have another month to wait before any of them start to have the babies though. It’s still hard because some of them are so big, so I find myself doing the constant checking for ’signs’ even though I know they can’t be anywhere near ‘ready’.

This is the ‘fun’ time of the year. Months of constantly checking.

No Speed Connection

I’m in a bit of a quandry at the moment. I deeply want high-speed internet. You know, join the rest of the modern world. There are even a couple of options now, although one of them is less than desireable being that it’s satalite and I’ve heard a lot of bad things about that. The other is not exactly the best, but it’s the only other possibility right now since there are no cable lines around here. It’s a wireless high-speed. Okay, here’s my big problem. I’m so technologically inept it’s not funny. I’m a ‘plug n’ play’ type. I want to hit a button, and be done with it. In order to get high-speed that will work on both of the computers in my home I have to be able to figure out how to put in a router. Sounds simple until I go to the store to get one (none of the companies will install it for you) and am faced with what seems like a ton of choices and you have to know exactly what type to get for the type of computer you have.

I know nothing about things like HDMI switches, or routers, or any of that type of thing. I leave that happily to the geek type folks. The problem is my hubby doesn’t either, and we don’t have anyone we know that is, so we’re left with figure it out, or don’t bother with it. Looks like we won’t be getting high-speed soon.

Ban The Internet?—-NEVER

January 5, 2008 on 1:40 pm | In life | No Comments

Well it’s not too much longer before I start hearing the patter of little hooves. I love going out to the barn and seeing all those big bellies and knowing that soon all those babies will be on the ground. Of course it’s really nice out this weekend, just like the weather man predicted, and all that nasty snow is melting away. It would be a great time for new babies with the temperature so unseasaonably mild, but it’s not going to happen. I still have a month to wait for the first ones, and up to two months for the last of the ones due. I’ve been starting to cruise around looking for some accessories for the truck. I need a carrier for the cargo bed. We have a huge trailer, but in a lot of cases with the goats when we go to sales or shows something that big isn’t necessary and it would be great if we could get away with not pulling that big heavy trailer when possible.

I’ve found a lot of sites for car and truck accessories I didn’t even know were out there. You can get Chrysler 300 accessories if you have a Chrysler or just about anything you desire for any model car or truck. It’s kind of amazing. It’s one of the things I love most about the internet. You can find out what’s available in the area of things you desire and then learn about things you never even knew were out there and wouldn’t have found if it weren’t for the Internet.

I was watching ‘I Robot’ yesterday (again and for the millionth time–I love that movie) and one of the lines was the big robot builder guy said “I suppose you’re one of those that would want to ban the Internet to keep the libraries open”… well, I’d hate to see libraries close down, but ban the Internet–perish the thought. The world is so much more open than ever before thanks to the marvelous and still somewhat mysterious abilities of cyber space.

The Everything Pet Supply

Hi everybody. Wow we got hit with that big old snowstorm less than a week ago, and now they’re predicting temperatures in the 50’s this weekend. Is that crazy or what? Until yesterday I was snowed in completely. Finally got it all cleared away so I could get some food in the house. Food is just about the only thing I actually go out and get, or send someone out to get. Everything else I buy online… well almost anyway. Everything from pet supplies to furniture is just a click away! I love Jeffers for supplies because they not only have stuff for the house animals, they also have a catalog for the horses, and even other animals on the farm like the goats. I prefer places like that because I’ve done business with them and know they are trustworthy, and their service fast, and since it is, I can get all my stuff from one place instead of hunting around and buying from a bunch of different places, and hope that they all have great service. I especially like it during the winter when it’s too yucky to go out and drive.
