Glowing inside and out

April 29, 2008 on 12:12 pm | In life | No Comments

Just like looking good in the clothes we wear can make a huge impact on how we feel about ourselves, so can looking good in our own skin. Thankfully as an adult I haven’t had to battle with acne, but as a teen I sure did. My daughter never had much of a problem with it, lucky here, but my son had a horrible problem. I think God really pulled a bit of a boner on that one, making teenagers who are already in the most troubled period of their lives deal with acne too. In my teen years there weren’t many acne treatment options. Even when my son was younger there were fewer than there are today. Now, whether you’re a teen, have a teen who is battling acne, or an adult with adult acne, it’s not the shameful thing it was once considered, but there are tremendous advances available to treat the problem. Taking the time to take care of your skin can make you glow, both inside and out.

When You Feel Good You Can Do Amazing Things.

When you’re trying to lose weight, it’s more important than ever to somehow maintain a positive body image. That’s a lot harder than it may seem to those who’ve never battled with weight. Of course, it’s very important all the time, but more so when it’s the hardest to do. Losing a positive self image makes it very difficult to maintain the rigors of exercise and low calorie dieting needed to lose pounds just at a time when you often feel discouraged and hopeless. Getting the most out of how you look is really important. Not just for those around you. Not just so they comment on how good you look and are doing, but for YOU when you look in the mirror, or just to make yourself feel special. Finding clothes in the right sizes gets a little easier as the pounds fall off, but it is still sometimes necessary to go for plus size clothes and plus size lingerie. Luckily more and more really nice clothing and lingerie is available to help those of us with ‘a few extra pounds’ look and feel good about ourselves. When you feel good about how you look, you can do amazing things.

Beautiful Dreams

I love beautiful outdoor stuff like teak patio furniture, and yard ornaments. I confess that I still have to find a place to put something nice like that. I still have a big grill that exists in the garage because I can’t put it out back because of the animals, and up front is so windy with all wind sweeping in off the open fields that putting anything out there is not only crazy because it will blow away, it’s downright dangerous. Someday I’ll have my dream patio complete with comfortable furniture and all the trimmings… someday when I don’t have to share it with a goat. For now it’s just a beautiful dream.

Unwinding After A Long Day

I need to join one of the online wine clubs. I got aggravated yesterday at the selection in the local store. Living in a rural area means not having the greatest selection of a lot of things. You can get just about anything but you can’t be choosey. I like that about the wine clubs. You get to sample different varieties of wines that you wouldn’t find out here. I like that you get it sent straight to your door too. No hassle, no driving. I got some samples of wine from a club online around Christmas time and it was great. Gold Medal Wine has a wonderful selection of prize winning wines and you get vineyard information which I really thought was cool. Finding out about the people behind the wine is something you don’t get from the grocery store either. I like knowing how business like that are run, especially family business and lots of the wineries are family run business which I thought was extremely interesting. I don’t drink a whole lot, but I do love to unwind with a glass of wine by the fireplace after a long day.

Two Birds with One Stone

I don’t know if anyone else has ever thought of this, but I’m sure they must have at least given it a thought. Between camping out at shows and pulling huge trailers full of animals, some people opt for big RV’s to live in, and still pulling a trailer as well. I’ve often thought it would be cool to buy a bus and convert it 1/2 into a living area and 1/2 into a trailer area for the animals killing two birds with one stone, and having it all contained in one big unit. It would be the ultimate way to travel to shows. I’ve always envied the folks with the full-service RV’s, but this would be one step better. What do you think?

When You Least Expect It.

We travel a lot in our various business, and travel health insurance isn’t something we really think about since most of the traveling we do is in the U.S. However, lately I’ve been having dreams of going to the ‘genesis’ of our goat business–South Africa. Well suddenly I’m confronted with the need to research travel insurance. It’s something most people don’t think about when planning out of the country vacations. Who expects accidents to happen? That’s when the do though, isn’t it? When you’re least expecting it. What I didn’t know is my normal insurance won’t cover me in foreign countries. I didn’t even know there were special travel insurance companies that offer short term coverage for the length of your stay in a foreign land. It’s good to know that I can rest easy on my ‘working vacation’ without worrying about accidents or health issues.

Soaking Away The Pain

With my mother-in-law here it would be nice to have one of those walk in bathtubs that I’ve seen on TV to make it easier for her to bathe, but sometimes I even think it would be great just for me. Aches and pains are a constant thing lately, and as much as I love soaking in a tub I find myself settling for a shower because I just don’t want to get in and out of the tub. It’s hard. Especially with the siatica problem I’ve been having for the last 6 months. Even on a good day it makes getting in the tub a pain–literally. A walk in bathtub would be great, and so relaxing at the end of a long day of chores.

The Right Foot

I’ve never been what you could call a ‘clothes horse’. Unlike a lot of women I don’t have a closet full of clothes, or fancy purses, or jewelry, and I only own a few pairs of shoes. Oh my. I see on TV, or read an article about some women having hundreds of shoes and I can’t help but think ‘why?’. I know for sure that it wouldn’t make much sense here on the farm. I have a pair of work boots for muddy weather, or cleaning stalls, two pair of tennis shoes, and two pair of ‘dress shoes’ although my dress shoes would probably make haute couture women laugh. I don’t own a pair of bowling shoes, and will never own a pair of golf shoes, but then again, people who play golf probably wouldn’t own a pair of muck boots either, so I guess we’re even.

Taking Care of Me

April 17, 2008 on 2:58 pm | In life | No Comments

Taking care of my mother-in-law for a few days here at my house because Bob had to be out of town for a conference for his license so he couldn’t stay with her, has been really hard on my diet. There are tons of pills out there like nuphedrine, which is a diet aid, but after dealing with all her pills, I don’t want to be taking any too. Most of my problem stems from the fact that my mother-in-law NEEDS to gain weight (or at least not lose anymore if possible) due to chemotherapy… so the foods that I would normally NOT have in the house, are HERE… and very tempting. Too tempting. It’s only for a few days, I’ll get through it, hopefully without gaining any weight. I think I’ll settle for that. Not so much not losing, but NOT GAINING.

Old Dogs, New Tricks

April 13, 2008 on 10:35 am | In life | 1 Comment

As I get older my memory shows definate signs of being ‘used up’. Computers get used up too. Well, in my case, with constant storing of large files, be it written work, or pictures, it just gets loaded up. I’ve found that I’m quite adept at adding components to my computer to expand its memory, or add other outside stoage space, like an external hard drive. Things I never thought I’d be able to do even 10 years ago. Just another example of how we learn, adjust, and adapt to our technological needs. Maybe my ‘mind’ isn’t as old as I think it is sometimes. You really can teach an old dog new tricks.
