History in the Making

May 28, 2008 on 2:24 pm | In life |

I like to watch sports. Notice that this is a different concept entirely from I like to participate in sports. I’ve never been the athletic type. I enjoy watching sports because I like the feeling of being part of an effort in cheering the players on, and being a part of the atmosphere especially of the larger sports tournaments. There are several that spring to mind amongst my favorites, the Kentucky Derby, the Super Bowl… and my favorite of all… Whimbledon.

Tennis is exciting by itself, but combined with the glamour of Wimbledon it’s electric. I’ve seen it on TV but haven’t had the chance to get Wimbledon tournament tickets. I would love to rub elbows with the celebrity audience as they watch greats like Maria Sharapova, John McEnroe, or Roger Federer smack the ball into oblivion to become the next Wimbledon male or female champion. It helps if they have attitudes like McEnroe too, it just adds to the spice of the competition because you never know what’s going to happen next, and I don’t mean with the ball.

Maybe someday I’ll get those coveted tickets

oh, and of course the plane tickets to get me to England, and sit back and relax with the gentle sound of the woosh of the ball and the roar of the crowd around me while I sip on my drink and rub shoulders with the elite audiences that are always drawn to such fantastic specticles. There’s a reason why famous people crowd to such significant events as Wimbledon… they are the events that create history.
