Is It Ever Really Done?

October 25, 2008 on 2:24 pm | In life | No Comments

Between all of the work on the farm, all of the inside animals, working full time with two business I own, taking care of my invalid mother-in-law and trying to find some time for myself it is amazing to me we’ve gotten as much remodeling done as we have in the past year. From a new floor in the family room to new kitchen faucets we have taken care of a lot of little details and several big ones. I already have next year’s remodeling projects planned out but I’ll take November and December ‘off’ to use that money for gifts for the holidays. I hope to be putting hard wood flooring in the living room and bedrooms next year as well as redoing the laundry room. No that still won’t make it finished. Is it ever really done?

Keeping Track The Easy Way

Everything is computerized now and even selling a few items often is better if you can use barcode scanners. It seems like every computer business program is set up for that and makes for much easier accounting. I sell some of my books ‘by hand’ and having a scanner makes it easier since they all have barcodes on them. The accounting program not only records the amount but takes each book out of inventory by its title, subtracts from total inventory stock, etc… so tax time is easy. Of course if you have a huge inventory it is even more important but with the way things are computerized now even for people like me it makes perfect sense.

wow I finally got back in here. Yesterday I was able to post once and then the Word Press system must have gone down. I was a little upset because I really wanted to add these pictures. Boogie Man is really settling in and starting to play more. I was worried because he never seemed to want anything to do with toys I bought him. In fact he seemed scared to death of them. He still acts like new things are going to eat him but he is starting now to warm up to them after a few hours. Here he is playing with a new toy. The still pictures are not NEARLY as funny as the live action though, he can get himself into some really funny positions.

Double Duty

I have never been a real clothes horse. Unlike some women who have hundreds of pairs of shoes I have shoes for certain occassions or jobs but not tons of them. I like good shoes though like Dansko. I need a new pair of everyday shoes now and by spring I’ll need a new pair of walking shoes, mine have just about had it. I put a lot of miles on them suckers. I also like the clogs that Dansko has on their website. I like shoes like that, comfortable, easy to slip on and off, and pretty too. My shoes have to pull a lot of double duty, living on a farm is not exactly footwear friendly and I like just everyday shoes that are functional and easy to wear. A pair of shoes that I can just come in from working outside and slip into to feel more ‘pedestrian’ and normal, and go to the store or a friend’s house, come home and slip out of to relax on the couch. It makes life so much easier.

How Smart Are They?

How smart are parrots? Just watch this amazing video to find out. Not my birds but a great example of what joy parrots can bring.

Slave Driver

October 16, 2008 on 3:49 pm | In life | No Comments

Most people who know me know I work two jobs and my boss at each one is a real slave driver–that’s because the boss at both of them is ME. Again, no surprise to anyone who knows me. I own my own businesses. One is the farm (goats) and one is my writing business (the one that actually keeps me most active). There is nothing better than working for yourself no matter how hectic it can be at times. Sure there are times when you have to worry if things will work out but they always seem to. As busy as I am I am always on the lookout for small business opportunities and what might suit me, fit into my current schedule, and make me more money. Bottom line that’s what its all about. It’s why we all work isn’t it? I happen to like that silly green stuff and you just never know when something you feel might suit you better will come along.

Buy Smart

Another thing I like to use the Internet for is researching prices on diet aides, equipment, and diet pills. Along with the best products and prices you can get all kinds of information on success and failures of each product or piece of equipment. I’m looking at treadmills now because winter is coming back and I stopped a lot of my daily walking last winter. I was able to take it back up in the spring/summer again this year but now I’m remembering why I wanted a treadmill so badly last year. Even though I’m working well now and getting paid well I still want the best prices I can get and the Internet helps with that. Not only do I not have to drive everywhere to compare anymore, in this case it would mean driving all the way up to the Chicago area and that’s a lot of gas/time. A lot of times you can even get deals on shipping, or free shipping when buying things online too which is an even greater benefit.

Shopping the New Way

October 16, 2008 on 9:35 am | In life | No Comments

I love the Internet. Shopping is not only easier because you can do so much online but you can seek out the best buy on any item so that you save a lot of money. Buy.com has great deals all the time and is one of my favorite places to shop online. They have everything from electronics MP3 players, computers, and external hard drives to expresso machines at the best prices anywhere online. That is only one of the benefits of shopping online. Another is saving on gas prices. Especially when you live out in the country where you have to drive miles just to get to a local store. Time… same reason. Sanity, I hate crowded stores. Selection: out here there is none, online you have everything. I would never want to have to go back to shopping the old way.

I got a few new pics of the birds today now that I found my camera finally. I didn’t upload them to my site but used the uploader in here. It’s easier but I don’t like the small thumbnails it posts.
